This contains all of Compaq's latest s/w for Desktop, Notebooks, and Workstation products. You can order a single CD (pn 272505-001) or a 12 month subscription (pn 183426-xxx.) Visit www.compaq.com/support/files/desktops/us/purchase.html for information on ordering the Support Software CD. The latest Agent version is available from www.compaq.com/support/files/index.html Some computers come with the Insight Agent preinstalled. The agent for all other supported systems may be downloaded from www.compaq.com/support/files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 PROTOCOL STACK REQUIREMENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TCP/IP is required by the Insight Managment Agent to be managed with a web browser or DMI. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.0 TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Not sure the Insight Management Agent is loaded and executing. 1.1 Check for the Intelligent Manageability Icon on the task bar. 2. Insight Manager Console is not receiving traps. 2.1 SNMP Agent on client not set up and SNMP Trap Target not setup on client. See "Configuring the Insight Management Agent" chapter in the Intelligent Manageability on-line Help. 2.2 Using wrong TCP/IP or IPX address for Trap Target. For NT 4.0 IPX trap targets, you must use the 8 digit net and 12 digit node addresses. An example IPX trap target address could be as follows: 0001251C.008029E51742 In all cases you must use leading zeros. 2.3 Try running TRAPTEST on the workstation to send a generic trap to the Insight Manager console or other assigned management console. You can run TRAPTEST from the command line, or by clicking on the Test/Demo button in the SNMP property sheet in the Alert Properties dialog. To display the Alert Property dialog, right click on the Intelligent Manageability Icon in the task bar. 2.5 Possible router problem. If you are using TCP/IP, ensure the client can PING the Management Console and vice versa. 3. During installation hard drive requirements are not checked or verified. Please use the following table for space requirements: Installation Type Hard Drive Space --------------------------------------------------------- Full Base, SNMP, DMI, and web 12 MB Typical Base, DMI, and web agent 10 MB Base & DMI 7 MB Base & SNMP 1.9 MB Note: These are estimates based upon measurements made immediately after installation and do not account for space requirement increases during runtime. 4. SNMP memory leak on NT4 SP4 can cause "low virtual memory" message. This problem is fixed with a new version of SNMP.EXE from Microsoft. See knowledge base article, Q196270 for a complete description and method to obtain the patch. This does not affect Windows 9x or NT4 Service Pack 3. 5. IE 4.01 or later is required to view Insight Web Managment Agent. 6. Windows 95 Dial-up Networking pops up on every boot with DMI installed. See Microsoft article Q134700, "Internet Provider Sign-in Screen Appears with Winsock Program" for more information. 7. After distributing disk image to multiple systems, memory configuration change alerts occur and Insight Manager (Win32 application) only displays one client. When using disk duplication software to distribute a master image to multiple PC's delete the following registry keys and values before creating the image. Delete these keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Compaq\ComputerID HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\MemoryInfo HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\HoodTStamp HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\PreviousMemoryInfo Delete these values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Compaq\CIMAgent\GUID HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\EnableLocalAlertMsgFlag ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.0 ADDITIONAL CONGIFURATION NOTES ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To hide the Intelligent Manageability icon on the taskbar set the following registry value: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\Parameters HideTaskbarIcon (DWORD) = 0x01 To disable the edit buttons on the SNMP property sheet, set the following registry value: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\Parameters DisableSnmpEdit (DWORD) = 0x01 To disable editing of the local alert recommended actions on the Alert property sheet, set the following registry value: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CPQALERT\Parameters DisableAlertEdit (DWORD) = 0x01 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.0 DMI Explorer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Invoking Intel DMI Explorer -------------------------------- The DMI Explorer executable program is idmiex.exe. Type this command line to invoke Intel DMI Explorer: idmiex [/path path_string] [/s] [/name display_name] where: /s suppress splash screen. (Optional) /name change display name of the target computer to display_name. This name is shown in the tree pane root and in main frame title (default - remote address is used as machine name). Note: If display_name contains spaces, be sure to use quotes ("). For example, "Johns Machine". (Optional) /path use as a path to the remote node. If not specified, DMI Explorer explores the local machine. (Optional) Full remote address, in this format: "RPC Name|Transport|Address". [RPC Type] is DCE or ONC. |Transport is one of these pre-defined transport names: tcpip or spx. or is an RPC-dependent transport names supported by specified RPC (ncacn_ip_tcp, ncacn_spx, ...); |Address is network address in RPC/transport-specific format. Notes: 1. DCE can be accessed by SPX by either machine name or address. When using machine name, specify the path in this format: DCE|SPX|machine_name. 2. When using machine address, specify the path in this format: DCE|SPX|~machine_address. Note: Be sure to add the symbol `~' before the address. 3. DCE TCP/IP can be accessed by either machine name or address. When using machine name, specify the path in this format: DCE|tcpip|machine_name. When using machine address, specify the path in this format: DCE|tcpip|machine_address. 4. DCE Local does require an address parameter. The address parameter should not be included. The should be enclosed in quotes as follows: "DCE|Local|". 8.2 Invocation Examples (DMI Explorer) --------------------------------------- This section presents some sample DMI Explorer invocation lines. To connect to a machine named ilnt38, using the DCE TCP/IP protocol, type this line: idmiex.exe /path "DCE|tcpip|ilnt38" To connect to a machine with the IP address 143.185.49.162, using the TCP/IP protocol, type this line: idmiex.exe /path "DCE|tcpip|143.185.49.162" To connect to a machine named 0014013100aa0068a123, using the DCE SPX protocol type this line: idmiex.exe /path "DCE|SPX|~0014013100aa0068a123" To connect to a machine named ilnt38, using the ncacn_ip_tcp RPC transport, type this line: idmiex.exe /path "DCE|ncacn_ip_tcp|ilnt38" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.0 Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Overview Insight Management Agent utilizes WMI to expose Windows OS specific information to the user. This functionality is automatically enabled if WMI is available on the client system. If WMI is not available, the OS specific information will not be available through the agent. 2. WMI Core Software Installation For Windows 2000 Professional, WMI Core Software is already installed. However, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0 (with SP4 or later) require the installation of WMI Core Software version 1.5 or later to be installed separately to enable WMI features in the Insight Management Agent. WMI Core software can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=18490 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. PROCEEDURE TO DEPLOY WEB AGENT CONFIGURATION ON MULTIPLE SYSTEMS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a "step by step" procedure for doing a deployment on multiple Windows systems. If this is a new deployment of the WEB agents and a common configuration set and passwords are desired. Then; 1. Install the WEB agents on a single system. 2. Setup the desired passwords using the WEB browser, change password capability. 3. Look in the C:\Compaq\WBEM directory (assuming C: is the Windows system drive) for a file; CPQHMMD.ACL, save this file for use during bulk deployment. 4. Using the WEB browser, setup any desired options on the Options page (follow the Options link off the WEB agent homepage). 5. Look in the C:\Compaq\WBEM\homepage directory for a file; CPQHMMD.INI, save this file for use during bulk deployment. Using whatever bulk deployment tools are at your disposal. 6. Create the C:\Compaq\WBEM directory on each system being deployed. 7. Copy the CPQHMMD.ACL to the C:\Compaq\WBEM directory on each system 8. Create the C:\Compaq\WBEM\homepage directory on each system being deployed. 9. Copy the CPQHMMD.INI to the C:\Compaq\WBEM\homepage directory on each system. 10. The rest of the installation should follow the normal setup process. If this is an update to an existing installation and the current settings on each machine are to be preserved. Then; 11. Follow the normal setup process. If this is an update to an existing installation and the current settings are being overwritten. Then; 12. Stop all the WEB agents using the Control Panel before proceeding. This will stop the HTTP servers embedded in each WEB agent. On client sytems issue the following commands: NET STOP CpqWebDmi NET STOP DfwWebAgent NET STOP LCRMS. 13. Follow the new installation procedure above. 14. Once the ACL and INI files have been copied to the target systems, restart the WEB agents, NET START CpqWebDmi NET START DfwWebAgent 15. Follow the normal setup process. NOTE: No guarantees are implied. This process to follow should work acceptably under most normal situations. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 1995, 2002 Compaq Computer Corporation Copyright 2002,2003 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
