Symptom(s):

When booting in either DOS or Win95, The unit will lock up at the 0VMAKFIL.EXE file located in the autoexec.bat. Actual problem is the 0VSUS.DAT file which is the hibernation data file is either damaged or unread/writable for some reason.

Note: the '0' character in 0vmakfil and 0vsus is the ZERO, NOT the letter 'O'

Suggestion(s):

To correct the problem, perform the following:

  1. DOS- Hit F5 at the "Starting MS-DOS" screen to bypass Config.sys and Autoexec.bat and go to C:\ prompt.
  2. Win95- Hit F8 at the "Starting Windows 95" screen to bring up menu selection, select "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" to bypass and go to C:\ prompt.
  3. Change the Attributes on the 0VSUS.DAT in the ROOT directory by typing the following: ATTRIB 0VSUS.DAT -h -r -s <return> Note: you must put a space between each variable listed after filename.
  4. Delete the 0vsus.dat file by typing: DEL 0VSUS.DAT <return>
  5. You should now run CHKDSK.EXE /F or SCANDISK.EXE to check for DOS level corrupted files.
  6. Restart unit, the 0VMAKFIL.EXE file should now recreate the 0VSUS.DAT file and complete loading of the operating system.
