Important Notes for Windows NT 4.0 Installing ScanWizard and the Adaptec card under Windows NT V4.0 Important: In order to install the ScanWizard software and your Adaptec interface card, you must be logged in as an administrator or have administrator-level access to the system files. A. Installing the Adaptec 1502E or 1502AE interface card: If you already have a functioning Adaptec card in your computer, go to step B. If you are installing the Adaptec 1502E or 1502AE card in your computer for the first time, you need to make sure IRQ11 (Interrupt Request #11) is available. To find your IRQ: Go to Start; Programs; then WinNT diagnostics. Click the resources tab, press the IRQ button, then take note of the following: If IRQ 11 appears in the dialog box, this means it taken by another device. In this case, you need to change the IRQ setting of that device to free up IRQ11 for the Adaptec card to be used. (You can call your computer manufacturer or systems administrator for help on this.) If IRQ 11 does NOT appear in the dialog box, this means it is available. In this case, do the following: 1. Start up your computer. Go to Start; Settings; then Control Panel. 2. Double-click on SCSI Adapters. 3. Click on the Driver tab, then click on the Add button. 4. Select Adaptec on the left hand side, and AHA-152X / AHA1510 SCSI Host Adapter on the right. (This option is used for an Adaptec card.) 5. Insert your WinNT disk or CD when prompted, then shut down and restart the computer. You are now ready to install the Microtek ScanWizard scanning software. Important: If you are using an Adaptec-series card other than the one provided with your scanner, you will need to contact Adaptec to obtain the latest version of Windows NT drivers for your interface card. Adaptec drivers shipped before August 1996 may not work properly and may cause communication problems. You can download current drivers from Adaptec's homepage at: http://www.adaptec.com. B. Installing the Microtek ScanWizard scanning software (Red or Green CD) Note: If you are installing the software as an upgrade, refer to section C before installing the software. 1. Insert the CD into your computer and run the cdsetup.exe program. (This program should run automatically on your system.) 2. Click on each program to install it and follow the instructions on the screen. C. Installing ScanWizard as an upgrade Before installing a new version of ScanWizard, you will need to delete the previous ScanWizard software on your hard drive. Follow these steps before installing the new version of ScanWizard: 1. Go to the MS-DOS prompt. (Start; Programs; MS-DOS) 2. Type: CD\WINNT 3. Type: del Twain_32.dll 4. Type: cd Twain_32 5. Type: deltree scanwiz 6. Type: Y and press the ENTER key. 7. Go to Section B for instructions on installing ScanWizard.
